Started 1995, the
brainchild of Aqib Elahi, Ashfaq Khan, Azhar Ali and Ahsen Shah.
Discussions during sunday football at kelmscott lead Aqib and
Ahsen to come up with the idea that a sunday 11-a side should be
created. With Aqib stating in a meeting at Imo's office on Hoe
Street that many youngsters in the form of Ashfaq Khan and
friends wanted to play grass football again. So Aqib Elahi done
all the hard work on organising this venture. Hence, a team was
born but a name was required. Ashfaq came up with the idea that
the word Asian should be the main part of the name so using
Santos FC from Brazil as their example (Pele's club), ASIANOS FC
was born.
In the late Spring of 1995, Asianos
FC held their first training session in Lloyds Park, Walthamstow
on a tuesday evening. The trainer, coach, captain and overall
oprganiser Aqib Elahi held the first training session. This
consisted of a run round Lloyds Park, stretches, press-ups,
sit-ups and a game of football. The participants were Zahir
Ahmed (Booma), Ashfaq Khan, Azhar Ali, Imran Araf (speedy),
Zahir Khan (chilli), Shazad Akhtar (pidi). On the walk home
Azhar Ali nominated to become the Club Treasurer and Shazad
Akhtar the Club Secretary.More to follow......
